"When I was a kid I wanted to be a veterinarian or professional athlete. I never thought about a career in law enforcement, although I highly respected all police. When I was 14, my dad's friend came by our house with all of his raid gear. He worked undercover narcotics for the Houston Police Department and let me play dress up in his helmet, tac vest, assault rifle… the whole shebang. From that point on there was no turning back. I knew I was meant to be in law enforcement.

What I enjoy about being a police officer is getting to know the members of the community I grew up in, and am currently serving. Helping people feel safe is a special part of the job that draws me to it, along with overcoming all of the challenges law enforcement presents. You become a part of this giant “blue family” that always has your back. And for adrenaline junkies, it’s great because in this line of work, you never have the same day twice.

Both of my dogs and my horse are rescue animals. I have two Pit Bulls. Scarlett is 9 years old and Lilly is 3 years old. Ellie, my horse, is 19 years old. They bring me joy and happiness every day. Animals have a special way of teaching love, kindness, compassion, patience, and respect. I can honestly say I am a better human being because of my fur children and how they have impacted my life.

My rescues came from terrible backgrounds and were treated horribly. Scarlett was lucky to be alive. With each one of them, it was love at first sight. The second I looked into their eyes and saw their desperation for love, and ability to still trust mankind, I had to take them home. #adoptdontshop"
